Because garages need love too.Garages can be tricky.  This often overlooked catch all space can mean the difference between a sale and no sale.  I've seen it happen.Garages, just like bedrooms need to be staged.A garage space used as a catch all space and full of clutter tells the buyer that there is a storage problem in the house.  You need to have an organized space for the buyer to see how the space is used and allow for them to imagine their stuff in the house. These simple three steps can help you better stage your garage space.

  1. You need to be able to park the number of vehicles in the garage as the garage was intended for. You also need to be able to comfortably be able to walk around them. Remove stuff until you can walk around without turning and sucking in to squeeze around them.

  2. You need to be able to see the wall touch the floor in 90% of the space.  This means get stuff up off the ground and onto shelves.  Wire shelving is cheap.  Seeing the edges of a room help better determine the size.  When boxes are stacked two deep, the size can be deceptively small.

  3. Sweep it out.  Keep the floor clean of oil and grit by keeping the floor clean with a push broom.  This also means clearing the cobwebs in any windows too.

We've seen people kill a slam-dunk sale on a house because they believed they could not fit their truck in the garage.  Upon measuring, the truck would fit.  Keep garages staged correctly for a slam-dunk sale on your home.Photo Credit: Cleaner Croydon
