Millwood is a town and suburb of Spokane County and is surrounded on three sides by the city of Spokane Valley. The region’s first paper mill, Inland Empire Paper Company, selected Millwood as its home in 1911. In 1923, due to lack of suitable housing in Millwood, the mill decided to help employees build their own homes and introduced a revolving home loan fund. The mill offered lots for sale and house plans to its workers trying to make Millwood their home. Today the company specializes in paper sales to over 120 customers and produces over 500 tons of newsprint for sale every day.
Millwood’s name started out as Woodard, after the family who owned land along the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene Electric Railway route. When Inland Empire Paper Company came to town, they requested the name be changed to Milltown. A compromise was reached between the names of Milltown and Woodard and the result was Millwood. Millwood was officially incorporated in 1927.
Millwood residents pride themselves on their support of developing businesses and sales, diverse neighborhood homes, unique history and small-town atmosphere. The area boasts a large central park, arboretum, close proximity to the Spokane River Centennial Trail and shopping.
According to Zillow.com, the median list price for homes for sale in Millwood is $145,000 as of October, 2010. Be sure to check out homes for sale in Millwood today! You may just stumble across the sale you have been waiting for!
